The European Commission has unveiled a new label layout proposal for the mandatory EU energy label (A to G), reports The Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA). The proposal is currently being considered by Member States and other services within the European Commission and a final document will be provided in the near feature.
The proposal keeps the A to G scale but calls for a recalibration; where an A++ appliance would become an A. After this, new scales would be added on top in the form of A1, A2, A3.
The industry has stated that any proposal should avoid a downgrading of energy efficiency classes as this would stifle innovation. The downgrading would also alter the perceived value of appliances.
The discussions on the way forward for these proposals continue in the EU. Meanwhile, AMDEA responded to some misleading articles in the press explaining the reasons why the industry is opposed to any rescaling of products.
