With so much buzz around ‘High Definition' and ‘Blu-ray', it is important that retailers really understand the consumer needs in order for them to offer the right product or home entertainment solution. Sony continues to invest heavily in product training for all its retailers so they can promote the capabilities of the products in the range - but now more than ever it is equally important to understand consumer needs.
The recent Sony HD road show, that ran nationwide over summer 2008, aimed to promote the benefits of High Definition in real life situations by creating real ‘living room' scenarios. It also showed how Sony products working and connected together can create an amazing High Definition experience that is simply not possible when products are used in isolation.
So what should retailers ask the consumer?
The demand for large screen Televisions has seen phenomenal growth in recent years. Consumers want to create the cinema experience at home but often they don't have a great understanding of what's required. This is a great opportunity for retailers to educate consumers and also achieve a positive sale.
If they are interested in purchasing a large screen LCD Television is it because they want to enjoy High Definition?
Do they realise they need a source such as a Sky HD subscription or a Blu-ray disc player to fully enjoy the benefits of High Definition?
Of course, High Definition images are just part of the cinema experience - consumers also need to consider sound. High Definition images, together with High Definition Multi-Channel Surround create an altogether more engaging experience for the viewer. There are differing solutions depending on the consumer's needs. Will they use separate components, such as an amplifier and speakers or will they opt for an ‘all in the box' solution?
BRAVIA
The Sony BRAVIA range offers the best resolution, the best audio and the best picture quality - driven by BRAVIA Engine Picture Enhancement technology. This technology is a suite of image processing technologies that act as a total digital processing studio and improves the image quality from any input signal. As a result images are clearer, sharper, and more natural.
There's something for everyone in the Sony BRAVIA range, with sets varying in size from 26" right up to 70" in a range of colours and with lots of features to bring the cinema experience into the living room. All Televisions over 32" have 1920x1080 resolution so are capable of creating HD 1080 image.
BLU-RAY
Sony standalone Blu-ray players provide movie fans with the ultimate HD 1080 home cinema experience and truly bring the big screen to life in any living room. As well as delivering stunning pictures in 1080p resolution, Sony Blu-ray players also support the new generation of High Definition Multi-Chanel audio formats - Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio, delivering up to 7.1 channel surround in stunning quality.
Both the Sony BDP-S350 and BDP-S550 feature 24p True Cinema, re-creating movie content in the way that the director intended. They also feature Sony's new Precision Cinema HD Upscale technology that converts standard definition DVDs and outputs an HD 1080 equivalent resolution signal to HD 1080 TV's via HDMI.
What's more the BDP-S550 features Profile 2.0 support out of the box, allowing the consumer to access a range of exciting online services and access rich interactive content with BD-Live Blu-ray discs. Downloaded content is saved on the 1GB exchangeable USB storage.
HOME THEATRE PACKAGES
There are a range of Sony ‘one box' home theatre packages to suit all budgets and requirements. These systems can create a surround sound experience in the living room with the minimum of fuss.
Sony's Digital Cinema Auto Calibration technology creates fast and simple multi channel surround sound set up by measuring the position of the speakers within the room and automatically adjusting the levels to give the best possible sound - no matter what shape or size the room is.
What's more if the consumer is using a home theatre package with a Sony BRAVIA Television and Blu-ray player then the BRAVIA Sync feature will control all products at the touch of a button.
‘Sony', ‘BRAVIA' and ‘BRAVIA Engine' are registered trademarks of the Sony Corporation, Japan.
