The hard-fought digital format war has finally been won by Blu-ray. Universal Pictures announced on 19 February that it would drop the HD-DVD format and shortly after Wal-Mart said that it would commit exclusively to the Sony product and no longer stock rival HD-DVD.

Working with Digital UK, the newly formed organisation Digital Outreach will bring together Age Concern England, Help the Aged, Community Service Volunteers and Collective Enterprises Limited to provide a range of support services from local and voluntary sectors to help those not eligible for the Digital Switchover Help Scheme, established to provide equipment and assistance to those aged 75 and over, and disabled viewers.

The SME-nvironment survey, commissioned by environmental guidance website www.netregs.gov.uk, found that only 12% of SMEs could name the WEEE Regulations unprompted, and just a third (36%) had heard of them once they were named. SMEs that are still ignoring WEEE legislation could be paying the price through avoidable waste charges and unnecessary effort in disposing of their own electrical waste.
