Ten British fledgling tech companies were invited to exhibit at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, after winning a competition run by the UK Trade & Investment – the government body promoting British business in international markets.
Covering areas such as communication, health and security, the new innovations were showcased at the CES Unveiled pre-show event, which was attended by media from around the world.
The winning companies included Truecall – a product that blocks nuisance phone calls which found fame on TV’s Dragon’s Den, PassivSystems – creators of online home energy management systems – and picoChip – pioneer of a technology that boosts 3G phone signals.
The competition was open to small businesses with less than 250 employees and was designed to underline the innovation currently taking place in the British technology sector and to give budding companies the chance to explore international markets.
Steve Williams, head of Key Events at UKTI’s ICT team commented: “It was a pleasure to see entries from so may British companies who are all ready to compete on an international level. We’re very proud to be supporting the winning companies, all of whom are deserving representatives of the thriving UK technology industry.”
