Developments in conventional irons include the Easyfill from Russell Hobbs, which features a patented funnel design to make it easy to fill or empty – an end to spills and mess during this most hated of household chores. The Easyfill can be placed directly under the tap and features a push button valve to aid filling, while the power cable can be wrapped and stored round the base. Other features include 400ml water tank, variable steam options, self-cleaning and anti-calcium functions, and vertical steam.

  • Domena EasyBox

French manufacturer Domena has been focusing on innovation in steam generators for several years, including a model made with recyclable material. The EasyBox is the latest range, and features four models ready to use in times ranging from 30 seconds to 90 seconds. One model carries distinct styling perhaps better suited to Continental tastes (green butterfly and flower motif on the casing), but features common across all four EasyBox models include a lock system handle and removable iron rest.

  • Home-tek Travel Iron

The travel iron sector tends to fluctuate in terms of success but offering a more versatile product can certainly help gain sales. That’s been the thinking behind Home-tek’s latest innovation. The HT609 travel iron/garment steamer has an additional attachment allowing the business traveller to steam jackets and smart outfits, alongside the usual function as a compact iron.

  • Philips GC840 steam generator

The latest pressurised steam generator from Philips is the GC840, opting for a smart ‘aubergine’ colour, which in a market dominated by white, is a brave move. Features on this latest product include up to 5 bars of steam pressure to increase the speed of ironing, continuous steam to 110g/min for fast crease removal, heat-resistant mat to place the hot iron on safely and a carry lock which locks the iron to the base.
