Over the past 12 months, the company has increased its revenue by 13% by streamlining the business in several areas, including the integration of its TV and PC business.

The company also revealed that it has maintained its strong position in the DVD market, despite withdrawing its HD DVD format last year.

The announcements were made alongside the unveiling of the brand's line-up for 2009 which includes the SV Series, its first LCD TV with LED backlighting (see Products to Watch, p10). Toshiba also unveiled several TVs which will be equipped with Dolby Volume, which automatically adjusts volume levels so that users don't have to adjust it themselves when changing channels or during adverts. The XV series will be the first TVs in the UK to feature Dolby Volume.

Toshiba ruled out the possibility of introducing Freesat-enabled TVs, opting to support high definition on Freeview instead, which is expected later this year.

The manufacturer also stated that it has no plans to introduce 3D TV technology, although its Cell TV, which enables users to view and record up to eight HD channels simultaneously, is due in 2010.
