AV and hi-fi manufacturer Onkyo has entered the high-definition disc player market with the launch of its first Blu-ray deck.
The DV-BD606 sports a version 1.3 HDMI socket and supports a full HD resolution of 1020 x 1080p, along with 24fps images. The player meets the Profile 1.1 standard meaning that it will support picture-in-picture playback of interactive bonus material found on certain Blu-ray discs.
The deck is capable of upscaling standard DVDs to 1080p, and can also playback discs with DiVX, MP3 and JPEG files.
When hooked up to a suitable AC receiver, the player can play film soundtracks in Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats.
