The small appliance sector continues to be highly competitive. Thanks to our investment in product innovation, consumer research and design our market share remains strong. We have seen particular success this year with Intellisteam, a revolutionary new steamer which cleverly pre-programmes everything so that a whole meal will finish cooking at precisely the same time. Our Advanced Finish Iron has also been hugely successful as it features an intelligent soleplate ensuring consumers get an exceptionally smart finish. Both products have recently been awarded the prestigious Which? Best Buy confirming our commitment to innovation and excellence.
2008 has been the year that the environment has remained high on the news agenda. The widely reported impact that appliances have on both the environment and household bills has increased consumer demand for energy efficient products that make domestic tasks easier and quicker. We kick started our energy saving product programme with the introduction of the first-ever energy saving small appliances collection. Concentrating on those products consumers use most regularly around the home there are currently five products in the Ecolectric Collection - a kettle, toaster, iron, vacuum cleaner and slow cooker.
As part of our long-term commitment to environmental sustainability, we are one of the only small appliance manufacturers to be working with the Carbon Trust, helping us to achieve our goals, addressing all areas of our business.
Looking to the future, all products will need to be energy efficient as the green issue is here to stay.
