The best green products for Christmas
The EST list of accredited products reaches the 3,000 mark
Published:  11 September, 2008

At the time as the EST Energy Saving Recommended product list has reached the 3,000 mark, Pure has received its seventh Energy Saving Recommended (ESR) accreditation for ONE Elite DAB radio which joins other Pure's ESR-accredited products, such as Move; EVOKE-1S; Siesta; Chronos II; TEMPUS-1S and ONE Mini.

Products endorsed by the scheme have to satisfy an Independent Endorsement Panel of experts and meet strict energy efficiency criteria. All seven radios are part of Pure's EcoPlus range: a growing series of fifteen products with reduced power consumption and packaging materials from recycled and sustainable sources. All radios will feature an Energy Saving Recommended logo.

According to the EST an ESR-accredited digital radio uses, on average, around five times less energy than listening to the radio through a laptop, 20 times less energy than listening through a desktop computer and 40 times less energy than listening to the radio through a TV with a Freeview set-top box.

The 3,000-strong Energy Saving Trust ESR product list extends from energy saving bulbs to small appliances, such as Eco kettles and DAB radios to large domestic appliances such as a Bosch tumble drier, LG Steam Direct Drive washing machine and Smeg fridge freezer. The Electrolux Group alone has over 100 of its appliances across its three brands, AEG, Electrolux and Zanussi endorsed by the EST.

The recent EST research indicated that more than a third of Brits planning to buy CE products this Christmas say they will choose the most energy-efficient models, while a quarter will choose only energy efficient gifts.
