The ActiFry is the first deep-fryer that can make a kilo of chips using just one small spoonful of cooking oil, says its maker, Tefal. This means that it can make chips which contain just 3% fat, rather than the average of 14% contained in chips made in a standard deep-fat fryer.
Tefal's patented design incorporates a paddle which gently rotates the chips around a removable aluminium non-stick pan to give them a thin coating of oil. The chips are then subjected to a constant stream of hot air to cook them.
The ActiFry can also be used to cook other foods such as meat, fish, vegetables and fruit – all with only a tiny amount of oil.
