Over five million DAB digital radios have been sold, according to figures from GfK. This equates to nearly 10 million listeners tuning into DAB around the UK. DAB set penetration now stands at 18% of all UK homes.
Comet has started offering a collection and recycling service of domestic appliances to all UK households. For a £20 charge Comet will collect any large appliance even if a replacement has been purchased at another retailer.
The average UK household now has a lower proportion of its monthly income to spend on discretionary purchases than at any time in the last five years. The average family now has just over 22% of its gross income left over, as opposed to over 28% in 2003, according to the Ernst & Young study.
The Electrical Safety Council is looking for registered electrical contractors to work with them on their new charitable safety scheme aimed at older homeowners receiving a means tested benefit and requiring electrical improvements to their homes in order to bring them up to a safe standard.
The Government, in conjunction with The Carbon Trust and BSI British Standards, has promised to put a carbon footprint label on consumer products. The labels are currently being trialled on products from Walkers, Boots and Innocent.
