YOU may have noticed that this issue of IER carries a few items relating to the Electrolux Group which recently held its Global Design product launch at the newly open Wembley Stadium. It is obviously a busy time for the Group which consistently introduces product innovations to the market and advocates new environment-friendly ideas at all platforms.
Therefore I was sad to learn that Andy Mackay, who for many of us was the face of Electrolux, championing its ideas in the UK, will be leaving after 19 years with the Electrolux Group as a result of a corporate restructuring. Let's hope that Andy's extensive knowledge of the industry and his great passion for the business will be appreciated in his new appointment.
Analysing market statistics for the article on wine cabinets and beer fridges for the June issue, I've found out that this is probably the fastest growing product sector in the white goods industry. The volume and value growth of wine cabinets exceeds 100% year on year – which is something we don't hear every day. The feedback which I have received from the manufacturers has confirmed my findings. This is not only an opportunity closely allied to growing wine consumption in Britain, but also an aspirational product the price of which “is not an issue”. I suggest therefore that you stock up well on them this summer; a glass of chilled wine offered out of one of these lovely cabinets on display could be the best piece of PoS you've ever used.
